Oil & Gas Industry

The oil and gas industry, also known as the energy sector, relates to the process of exploration, development, refinement of crude oil and natural gas. The oil and gas industry consist of three segments: upstream, midstream, and downstream. All segments needs strong and reliable electric power source which can operate in harsh climatic conditions as well as use available gas in different conditions. Mobile containerized power stations based on gas engines is one of the most efficient solution for all O&G segments

Main Application of Gas Engines Power Solution

The oil and gas industry is broken down into three segments: upstream, midstream, and downstream.
01
Upstream companies (exploration and production (E&P)). Power for drill oil and gas wells as well as oil extraction
02
Midstream companies (transportation from the wells to refineries). Power for gas transportation, compression and liquification of gas
03
Downstream companies (refining and the sale of the finished product). Power for refining industry and finished products production

Favorable Conditions for Own Cogeneration Power

01
Issues with availability of electricity
02
Urgent need for electricity
03
Needs for electricity at different locations
04
Intention to reduce emissions
05
Issues with power reliability or electricity quality
06
High electricity costs
07
Long hours of operation (>4,000 hours/year)

Solution Advantages

01
Improvement of the environmental situation in the oil production area through utilization of associated petroleum gas. The disposal of these poisons will improve environmental performance and positively affect the health of workers and nearby residents. The content of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases does not exceed 250 mg/m3
02
Possibility of obtaining cheap electricity. APG stations turn oil waste into substantial income
03
Short payback period. The efficiency of power plants using APG as fuel is 80% and higher
04
No need to construct electrical lines to oil fields and all infrastructure
05
Reliability. Reciprocating gas engines power plants running on associated petroleum gas are unpretentious, they are not afraid of temperature changes and dust, therefore they can be installed outdoors. Work perfectly in severe climatic conditions of hot deserts and the extreme North
06
Opportunity to receive additional profit from the sale of electricity to the grid
07
Use of free thermal energy. Heat, which is a by-product of electricity generation, can be used to heat oilfield facilities and produce hot water

How it works

Gas engines can use Associated Petroleum Gas (APG) as a fuel despite complex gas composition.
Meanwhile in most cases gas requires some treatment before the combustion:
  • removal of hydrocarbons
  • dehumidification
  • depressurization of the gas due to concentration of H2S
Treated “cleaned” gas is high value fuel which can be used for gas engines power generation. Typical technical solution for gas engines power generation is mobile compact containerized units.
Containerized units can be used for cogeneration if heat power is needed in combination with electricity
